Connect: Me, We & Baby

STARTS
April 30th!

Try out our strengths-based, 6-week parent-baby therapeutic art program!

This group program is designed to help you further connect with yourself, your baby and other parents.  Let's fill your cup!

Sometimes being a parent of a baby can feel a lil' messy...
let's transform that mess into something beautiful!

No artistic ability required!  Experience the benefits of a low-pressure environment where you can chat with other parents, have fun with your baby and engage in art activities to build on your strengths as a person and a parent/caregiver.

This program is open to families with a baby under one year.

Carve-out Connect Time

One of the most common complaints of parents with babies is how hard it can be to spend time connecting with their babies!  Between the laundry, dishes and ongoing daily tasks, it's not easy to do what many parents want to do - simply BE with their baby!  Carve out time to "be with" your baby, while being with yourself and other baby-parents.

Process & Presence,
Over Product

Art-making has a wonderful way of engaging us to be in the present moment.  When we can abandon our expectations around the outcome, we can enjoy the process!  While this program will involve some guided art activities, the prize is the process, not the product (which you may find similar to parenthood!)

Fill Your Own Cup

Taking care of a little human being can be both fulfilling and depleting!  Join in on guided art activities and conversations designed to help you de-stress and fill your own cup - both literally and metaphorically - so you have more to give to your baby and yourself.  Enjoy a tea and snacks on us!

Be in Community,
Creatively!

Take a breather in a supportive environment with other parents and participate in a way that feels comfortable to you!  Art in community is a great way to build connections and beat feelings of isolation.  While therapeutic and supportive in nature, please note this is not a therapy group.

Discussion themes we may address, but are not limited to, include:
being "present" to you and baby, caring for self, community-building, parenting intentions for challenging moments and enlisting the support of others.

Supplies Included

Baby-Safe

Space

Inclusive Environment

All materials will be provided.  Simply dress yourself and baby in comfortable clothes you aren't afraid to get a bit dirty (any new spots will blend in nicely with your already "baby-blessed" clothing!)

Any materials in contact with baby will be taste-friendly and baby-safe.  Care will be taken to ensure other materials are out of baby's reach.  A baby play area will be available.

Creating and maintaining a safe environment that allows for a diversity of experiences is important to us.  If you have any concerns about this, please speak to us.

** While this group has therapeutic benefits, the program is intended to be primarily for educational purposes, with added benefits provided by social interaction/support and experiential art methods.  If you are experiencing high levels of active distress, suicidality, bipolar disorder, psychosis or other mental health concerns requiring individualized treatment, we would like you to get your needs met in the best way possible.  Please discuss with your doctor individual therapy options or programs such as BC Reproductive Mental Health or another support option best tailored to your needs.

This group has been made possible by a partnership of Semiahmoo Arts Society and South Rock Perinatal Wellness, due in part to the funding provided by Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative.  We acknowledge and are grateful for the generosity of both CPMHC and Semiahmoo Arts Society - our society is made richer by both of these organizations.
