The journey to and through motherhood/parenthood is ever changing and dynamic. Art can be used in a multitude of ways from a meditative practice, or a form of release, to helping process the whirlwind of thoughts that can sometimes invade our mind, are just a few.
Through my own path to motherhood, I experienced many ups and downs, from infertility to difficult birth, to managing sibling dynamics (I’m an only child) and getting an adult diagnosis of ADHD. I began training as an Art Therapist with the intention to work with a different client population.  My Art Therapy training happened to take place at the end of one maternity leave and the birth of my second child. The more I learned and used Art Therapy to heal my own self and researched all aspects of maternal mental wellness I realized how much more information and support needs to be out there for all of us. Â
My final research paper became a literature review and program development for pre and postpartum. Now, within my teaching, my art practice, and my therapeutic arts group facilitation, my passion has become to help mothers/parents or potential mother/parents use the arts to help them navigate the new/ever-changing landscape of motherhood/parenthood.Â
Over the past 15 years I have worked as an arts instructor of kids and adult programs as well as pursuing an artistic practice that has spanned photography, installation, painting and mixed media work. I currently teach parent & baby and parent & toddler arts classes at Semiahmoo Arts with a focus on process, on creation together, and in bonding; and facilitates therapeutic arts groups for new parents with South Rock Perinatal Wellness Collective. I hope to expand to offer support to other areas of this journey.
I hope you will consider letting me be a part of your journey.
